Daenerys has many titles, some more official than others. The Mother of Dragons. Breaker of Chains. “Little pink girl.” But the one that mattered the most in tonight’s Game of Thrones was “the Unburnt.” Vaes Dothrak, and its thousands of Dothrakis, now belong to Dany, after she burned down the temple of the Dosh Khaleen, with a little help from an increasingly grey-scaled Jorah and cocky Daario. Then, to paraphrase Metallica, she jumped in the fire.

Daenerys’ immunity to fire is an interesting wrinkle from the books, where she isn’t the T-1000. When author George R.R. Martin was asked, “Do Targaryens become immune to fire once they “bond” to their dragons?”, he responded, “TARGARYENS ARE NOT IMMUNE TO FIRE! The birth of Dany’s dragons was unique, magical, wonderous, a miracle. She… walked into the flames and lived. But her brother sure as hell wasn’t immune to that molten gold.” But could she do it again? “Probably not,” Martin wrote. We’ll break down the implications of this scene — and how Daenerys might, at last, start marching west, toward Westeros — during our recap tomorrow.
