Women are using their bodies to make a stand against a particular misogynistic comment presidential candidate, Donald Trump made during a taped conversation back in 2005.
ICYMI the particular phrase that caused so much upset was: “I’m automatically attracted to beautiful [women] – I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.”
It is by no means the only sexist comment Trump has made, but this particular statement really got women riled, so much so that they’ve decided to fight back in a pretty unique way.
It started with women taking to their social media pages posing nude with a strategically placed mock ballot with the hashtag #GrabHimByTheBallot. The brainchild of photographer, Anja Shütz, the campaign really started gathering pace over the weekend following a call out that Anja put on Facebook urging other women to take part.
“I’m looking to do a photoshoot around the hashtag #grabhimbytheballot,” she wrote. “This will stylistically be much like my recent work: elegant, dignified, beautiful, but with a very specific message. It, much like the other shots I’ve been doing, will be nude, seeing as a woman’s body seems to be as political as ever, if not even more so.”
And American women have been responding in their droves, coming forward to be photographed by Anja in protest at Trump’s comments. Standing in front of the American flag, the women of all different body shapes pose nude with the faux ballot strategically positioned.
Since uploading the shots to her Facebook page, the project has quickly gone viral and received thousands of comments from women praising the photographer and the women taking part for the bravery in supporting the campaign.
“This is by far the best political statement ever! Proof positive that women are strong, beautiful, and have voices that will not be ignored or suppressed by negative comments! Amazing!!!” one woman wrote.
“This is beautiful stuff ladies. Show the world the power of women,” added another.
“When I first heard about this via social media I honestly didn’t get it; felt like as a woman I must be missing some key empowerment gene or something. However, as this series has come together I have found myself totally moved by the diversity of women, by their strength in numbers… it’s starting to tell a beautiful story that will only grow stronger in the days and years to come. Vote on! Dump Trump!” wrote one woman.
